Fall Coat with Funk

With these last few moments of gorgeous, colorful Fall leaves on the floor, I decided it might be a good time to take on the spirit of spunk inherent in the bright mesh of shades across the spectrum of orange. Because the leaf colors range from yellow-orange all the way to red-orange, I chose to create a look just in the middle–with a classic shade of neutral scarlet-orange paired with nude-to-beige basics, too. This look is one of subdued and sophisticated Fall funk.

The added benefit of a collared coat is that, yes, it does give you the confidence that a collared blazer would, yet a dimension of warmth is added to the purely “professional” vibe. And, with the exact coat that I wore, I was able to add a bit of funk to the equation, too. In specific, this coat was bought from Anthropologie, and the designer/brand was Australia-based Keepsake the Label. I particularly love the faux-fur trims on this piece along with the gold hardware on the buttons. Underneath, I wore a nude turtleneck from Uniqlo, beige pants, and baby pink Reebok Alter the Icon Classics.

I’ll admit, Fall isn’t a season that we as a society consciously associate with funk, but adding a unique, funky, Fall coat to your wardrobe can be a really nice way to differentiate yourself and add a nuance to your otherwise tame and neutral Fall wardrobe. The greatest faculty of fashion is it’s ability to channel different characteristics or “personas,” so if you’re looking for a way to switch up your groove for the remainder of the season, find yourself a Fall coat with funk!
