Generally, I only up my makeup game when my look is fairly simple or neutral because I believe that beauty is about balance. If your outfit is speaking, then your face should be minimal. A few days ago, however, I was enticed to go blue crazy on my lids to match the velvet-like blue pants that I wore. Plus, my hair was pulled back into a sleek low-bun which gave me the perfect excuse to get a little experimental with my eyes!
What I used in order to achieve these baby blue lids was actually so affordable–you’d be shocked. Both the blue eye shadow (which came from a gorgeous palette) and the bright blue liner that I used were from the brand NYX. In specific, these were the products, which you can click on to shop!:
From the palette, I used the upper-right hand corner shade and dabbed it on my eyelids with my finger post my application of sunscreen, tinted moisturizer, and concealer. As with any eye shadow, more application means more color, and I’d say I was pretty generous with my application because I wanted my shadow to truly stand out.
As far as the liner goes, I used this blue one that I actually received in a limited edition set of NYX liners. Now, this one is sold individually only, but I still think it’s so worth it. After applying my eyeshadow, I applied a pretty thick line of this NYX Slide On Pencil in shade Azure, and finished off my eyes by then using a black liner from Clarins to fill in the spaces between my eyelashes (click here to check it out), and finally, my Bobbi Brown Eye-Opening mascara which you can find here.
Notice how with these bright blue eyes, my lips were extremely understated. Coming back to the notion of balance, if you are to play up one feature on your face, make sure the others are done up very subtly. It’s almost like how, in life, we like to have only one person speaking at a time. And on this note, yes; even when it comes to beauty and fashion, it becomes helpful to emulate the greatest lessons life often tries to teach us.
XOXO,
