Day 1 // Outfit 3: Teal Sweater Sophistication
OK, I know what you’re thinking. How can the words sweater and sophisticated be paired together in a phrase? Well, as anything fashion-related, a little creative thinking can get you to explore untapped ideas and formulate your own trend. When packing this specific outfit for fashion week, I was honestly quite nervous–these pants from Ann Taylor were my go-to business formal pants, and my Roger Vivier black pumps were heels that I also save for more formal events. Pairing these two with an over sized, non-fitted teal Free People sweater was a risk, but one that I’m glad I took. After all, if not at NYFW, when else could I have done this?

One other spin I took on this outfit was taking the belt out of my Ann Taylor pants and tying it around my neck in a new way; leaving the strands hanging down my back. I was sort of inspired by how, in Indian culture, we wear our pieces of cloth called ‘dupattas’ (similar to scarves). I liked having a bit of black here and there in this outfit as opposed to just having the pants be black. Having the neck piece, bandeau, pants, and shoes as black made this outfit more cohesive. To finish off the look, I wore my Tod’s handbag in animal print which added a little more color to this two-tone look. Lastly, I wore Tom Ford sunglasses. Is your fashion week look ever complete without the perfect pair of shades? I must say, however, what was so interesting to me was that people even sat and watched the show wearing their sunglasses. Not sure how I feel about that…The minute I enter an indoor location, my shades come off.

Truly, I’ve consistently been a fan of teal, but am growing to love it more and more in fashion this season. I did a blog post a few weeks back about how to style all things teal, which you can check out here. Teal is huge for Fall!
Be sure to check out my NYFW Day 1 vlog to actually go back and time and see where this teal and black look took me!
