Whether you’re going out to a fancy event, wanting to differentiate yourself, or else just chilling with your friends and watching Koffee with Karan followed by your favorite Hindi films, it’s never a bad idea to subtly mix in some desi pieces in your look. Not only does doing so add a personal touch, but also will make it much less likely that someone will show up in the same outfit as you. For all my fellow Indian-American ladies, or really, any NRI’s, here are some real simple and fun outfit ideas:
The Sari Blouse + High Waisted Pants

Blouse: Payal Singhal
Pants: Amazon
Because who needs basic crop tops when you’ve got gorgeous sari blouses?
Embroidered Crop Vest + All Black

Shoes: Gucci
Jeans: Hollister
Top: Talbots
For those who bleed in black but also want to have some fun from time to time.
Flowy Embellished Kurti Top + Skinny Jeans

Kurta Top: Rohit Gandhi Rahul Khanna
Bag: Salvatore Ferragamo
We can’t all have a fan blowing through our hair like heroines in Hindi films do, but we can walk outside in our flowy kurtis and pretend we feel just as good, right?
My hope is that, regardless of whether you are Indian or not, you stay in touch with your culture and roots in some form. Clothes allow you to communicate with the world, so if you do want to embody and showcase your culture, using clothes is a great way to express your identity. However, you’re certainly not limited to this! Other art forms, rituals, practices, and familial gatherings are all just as important 🙂
