I’ve already started my gifting, *hi mom* but as our precious world grows more and more threatened via continued unsustainable practices (leading to climate change, water scarcity, biodiversity, etc.), I believe there’s no time like the present to start gathering presents (for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or otherwise) that are sustainable, and good for the earth!
For a few weeks now, I’d been wanting to put together a holiday gift guide for all those who, like me, are ardent fans of luxury goods, yet know better than to purchase from brands that promote practices that contribute to some of Earth’s gravest, most imminent issues. Thus, here are some of my personally curated, super sustainable holiday gifts under $50! And, I’ve made sure to include those and only those brands which I’ve worn, loved, and advocated for in the past!
My love for Stella McCartney is no secret. I’ve worn her red camera bag so much and have shared the love on Instagram to the max. I was even named one of the top influencers for the brand not too long ago! The reason I’m an ardent advocate for her brand is that she believes you do not have to compromise on quality if you’re not using leather. Being a vegetarian myself, I appreciate the fact that her items are fully vegan. Though I cannot say I’ve gone 100% leather free in my purchases, brands like her’s make me think of making the switch more and more.
This is actually a piece I, myself, own (in shade rose), and have been wearing non-stop. 95% of the tee’s composition is from luxe bamboo material, and it’s an extremely breathable, wearable, comfortable item. I’ve worn it while sleeping, while exercising, while lounging, and even tucked into jeans with my favorite flats and a pair of shades for a casual grocery run.
Yet another contender that comes up with fun, yet classic vegan leather pieces, BLANKNYC Jeans has always been a brand that knows how to do trendy in a universally appealing way. I’ve always loved wearing several of their denim pieces and vegan leather jackets, and now I’m seriously starting to love even their vegan leather pants–especially this one! I mean, look at the gorgeous color!
This one is for the fun-spirited fashionista. Show Me Your Mumu is a brand I recently discovered that reminds me a bit of myself when I was young , wild, and free (as we all should be–always!). Whenever I wear their pieces, I feel like the most vibrant version of myself, and that’s honestly a feeling that I’d like for everyone to feel this holiday season. Their ethical/sustainable practices might not be as visible through labeling their items with “vegan leather” or “faux fur,” however, rather through their dedication to providing jobs locally, producing 80% of their items within the country (USA). For the founders, it was important to contribute to their own economy, and it’s important for us as consumers to look at sustainable practices like this within the supply chain!
Anyone who knows this brand would understand how amazing of a steal this is! Known for their amazing urban styles and high-quality denim, Rag and Bone has always been a favorite of mine. I’ve loved even their tops and sweaters! The brand has developed a super cool denim recycling program that really adds a new dimension to what we as consumers traditionally look for when we shop for “sustainable fashion brands.” I’d urge you to check it out!
A beautiful, year-round friendly bag to give as a gift, this Melie Bianco stunner is actually, believe or not, from a very old collection. It, however, fits seamlessly well with the new top handle, no-fuss, easy to carry bag trend that we’ve seen on the runway this recent season. Another Los Angeles based sustainable brand, Melie Bianco uses only vegan leather in their bags. I’m all here for these classic, sophisticated pieces!
Hope that each and every one of you discovered something new (a new brand, new trend, new product, new idea on sustainability) in this post! As the holidays near us, I know it always gets a bit overwhelming to buy gifts for each and every one of our loved ones, but hopefully something you saw here struck a chord with you. Until next time!
